PREMENSTRUAL SYNDROME


 Premenstrual syndrome is a collection of  mood changes and physical symptoms that occur during the two weeks preceding the menstruation. In majority of women these changes are minor but in some women the changes are serious enough to affect  their well- being. as well as affect their inter-personal relations
.These group of women have the premenstrual syndrome. In the premenstrual  syndrome, the mood and physical changes  occurs within 5-12 days preceding menstruation and disappears after 2 days of the  onset of menstruation. The symptoms vary in severity between periods but are cyclic.

MOOD  CHANGES SYMPTOMS  OF THE   PREMENSTRUAL SYNDROME
1. Irritability
2. Anxiety
3. Fatigue
4. Nervousness
5. Exhausion
6. Aggression                              
7. Panic attacks
8. Felling unwell                                           
9. Confussion
10. Poor performance
11. Craving for certain foods

PHYSICAL CHANGES DURING THE  PREMENSTRUAL SYNDROME
1. Abdominal bloating
2. Abdominal discomfort, tenderness or pain
3. Breast swelling, tenderness or pain
4. Headache
5. Backahe
6. Clumsiness
Pms is more common with women in the age bracket of 30-45 and may become more evident after child birth or a disturbing life event.
Although pms is common in women, the cause remains unknown. Some believe it is due to a fluctuation in the levels of the hormones oesrogen and progesterone and that this can be relieved  through taking contraceptives pills. A study carried out  some time ago reports  that regular exercises  and avoidance of  stressful activities may reduce the seriousness of the symptoms.
